Introduction

A card game for 3 - 5 players aged 8 - 99.

All players attempt to be the first to get 12 hours sleep. This must be done despite neighbours’ attempts to prevent it. A continual series of noises serve to interrupt sleep, with opponents playing disturbance cards to cancel snoring or pillow cards.

Each hour of sleep results in one pillow being earned. The first player to amass 12 pillows is the winner of the game.

Preparation

Shuffle the cards well. Deal each player 3 cards which he keeps concealed in his hand. The remaining cards are left, face down, in a pile in the middle of the table.

The Cards

Snoring Cards indicate the start of a period of undisturbed sleep and may only be played on a player's own pile. The card is used to start play or to counter a disturbance card played by an opponent

Pillow Cards can be played on a player's own pile on top of a snoring or another pillow card. They are marked with 1, 2 or 3 pillows which indicate how many pillows can be claimed by the player using the card.

A majority of the Disturbance Cards can only be used to disturb the sleep of the player immediately to the left. They are played on top of a snoring or pillow card to disturb a player’s sleep. The Storm Card is an exception. This disturbance card can be played on any of the other players’ piles.

The Game

The most alert person (i.e. the first to shout “me”) begins the game with play proceeding in a clockwise direction.

When it is a player's turn to go he draws a card from the stock and then plays a card. There are four possibilities:

It is always important to weigh up the relative merits of cashing in on pillows or disturbing the sleep of a neighbour.

If the pile of cards in the centre becomes exhausted then all the discarded cards and all but the top card of each player's pile are shuffled together and a new stock produced.

Game End

The game ends when a player has gathered 12 or more pillows. The champion snorer has been found.
