Introduction

Andy Capp, the King of male chauvinism has only one philosophy on life: It is better to have a beer-gut than a workman's back! If the money that his wife Flo has earned is insufficient to meet his requirements then he simply borrows some. If Flo is against him, or it is closing time at the Pub then he is, invariably, going to get into a fight. Only when the Landlord switches off the pumps is it closing time for Andy Capp. Drinking time is over !

Preparation

The Aim of the Game

The idea of the game is to drink as much beer as possible whilst making the other players stay sober.

Game Play

During his turn a player may play one or more cards from his hand. He immediately draws the appropriate number of cards from the stock so that his hand is made up to 7 again. Note that if, during the course of the game, a player has seven or more cards in his had after playing then he may not draw any cards from the stock.

The Beer Cards

The beer cards represent pints of beer which are arranged in "trays". A single card or group can form a tray of drinks. During his turn a player may play one or more beer cards from his hand in front of him. If two or more cards are played in one go then they must be played as a single group. They must either have the same value or be part of a series of consecutive numbers.

For example you could play

For tactical reasons you may only want to play part of a group in you hand.

Instead of laying out a new tray you can also add to one that is already there. For example you could add another two 5s to three that are already there. You can also add to a series provided that you add to the top or the bottom of it. The series 2,3,4,5 can be added to by a 1 or a 6 etc above it.

During his turn a player can either lay down a tray of drinks or an action card. On his turn, a player must play at least one card even if it has no effect.

Action Cards

With action cards you can either drink beer or frustrate other players. All played action cards are placed face up in a discard pile and not used again.

Andy Capp Drinks (The Drink Card)

By playing this card a player can drink a tray of drinks. The corresponding card or group of cards is turned over and plays no further part in the game until the scoring.

Andy Capp Borrows Some Money (The Loan Card)

If a player plays this card then he can take one card away from each of his opponents. The players shuffle their hands and offer them, unseen, to the player of the card. He takes one card from each player and places them in his own hand. By doing this he may get more than 7 cards in his hand.

Flo Intervenes (The Flo Card)

The Flo Card allows a player to take one tray away from a player of his choice. This allows him to use it as a new tray or combine it with one of his own in his declared hand. A tray taken from another player can also be made up from cards in the hand to make a series.

For example, a player has the 2, 3 group in front of him. He plays a Flo card and takes a 4, 5, 6 group from another player. He lays this down with the 2, 3 and takes a 7 from his hand to make a series 2 - 7 inclusive.

The Brawl (The Fight Card)

In order not to be totally defenceless against Flo, a player can answer a Flo card with a fight card. It is possible to play this card out of turn. If Flo tries to take Andy's beer away she fails as a result of this card and the tray remains with the original owner. Flo can also fight back as well by using a fight card. The owner of the last fight card played gets to keep the tray.

You can also resist a loan card with a fight card.

Closing Time (The Landlord Card)

The closing time card takes a tray completely out of the game. You can play this card directly against another player or in answer to a Flo or a fight card. There is no answer to a Landlord card. It is definitive.

The Game End

After the last card is taken from the pack the game continues as normal until someone plays out his last card. The round ends immediately. The players sum together the beer cards that have been drunk and record it on the score sheet. The game ends when at least one player has reached 200 points. The winner is the player with the highest score.
