Stump the Net - January, 1997

Queries of the form:

Have you heard of a game involving (insert odd item here) and (insert second odd item here) that was published by (insert defunct game company here) way back in (insert date some time in the inconvenient past here)? My (insert relation here) and I used to play it and we're both suffering from severe amnesia (or, possibly, a brain cloud) and can't even remember our own names. Can you help us?

are now dominating email to the Cabinet. So, in response to reader demand, we will now play "Stump the Net" each month! (The name is taken from an old Tonight Show skit, "Stump the Band" - ask any American over 30. They'll explain.)

Maybe you can help me. I'm in search of the rules to a game that I used to play with my father about 10 years ago. It's a dice game called 10,000 (or Ten Thousand). Players rolled 5 or 6 dice and received points according to your roll and played until someone reached 10,000 points. I've had no success checking dice game books, etc.

Subject: PAN

My mother-in-law asked me to research a game called Pan. There are some weird names for some of the components and, if that isn't vague enough, she cannot tell me if it parallels Bridge, Bid Wist, Pinocle, Poker, or Gin Rummy. I found another game that began with PAN but that was not it.

We are not sure of the name of the game. It is played with marbles and cards on a big round playing board with holes sort of like chinese checkers. 4 players. Please send us any info about a game like this if you have it. History etc. May be known under different names. Wampoo, Wahoo. Thank you!

Dear editor,

I've been searching for the intructions to a board game from Tanzania, Africa called "Bao". Think it played with marbles. Please help me. I just can't seem to find it.

Thanks,
Kristie
